HIT THE POST WITH CJAD'S RICK MOFFAT, VOICE OF THE ALS & THE CANADIENS
Isn't it wonderful when fathers and sons can appreciate one another? Scotty Bowman accepts a job so he can be with his son Stan in Chicago on the same day severe heart attack survivor Jeff Trestman savours his son Marc's win at Molson Stadium. Thankfully the Als didn't put too much stress on Mr. Trestman during his first visit to Montreal.
If Damon Duval breaks a window at the Montreal Neuro by blasting a CFL record 75-yard field goal some day, will he have to pay for the repairs? After hitting from 50 and 51 yards out toward the west endzone against the Tiger-Cats, Duval may want to check his damage insurance. He had room to spare on both his long distance connections and Moffat predicts he'll stop traffic on Parc some day kicking one over the east endzone.
Good luck Ashley and Damon, expecting a second son August 5th, just in time for Als kicker to make the team flight to Winnipeg later next week!
But Scotty---the Blackhawks? Only guy in Montreal I know who can be stoked about this is Rob Martier, a life-long Hawks fanatic.
Can you believe the fan-mail Reggie Hunt of the Alouettes got from his former team the Roughriders? They want the Als to pay up $150.00 for two footballs Hunt threw into the crowd after making not one but two interceptions in his Als debut at Regina. Hunt should get a reward! Firing up the crowd in the homecoming for a Riders' Grey Cup champ---how soon they forget.
Bowman paid tribute to his Verdun roots in his Chicago news conference, pointing out Denis Savard Arena was his old stomping ground.
Met another pride of Verdun, Wally Patch at the Als-Cats game. I'm fortunate enough to know Grey Cup heros from '02 (Philion) and '77 (Proudfoot) but to meet someone who played in the '44 game? It's true. Wally was in the Navy and the Ste. Hyacinthe-Donnaconna team beat the Hamilton Wildcats 7-6. Forget about bonus money...their reward was two days leave! Wally took 4! I've known a few guys to go AWOL at Grey Cup for 4 days, but they didn't risk the Navy coming after them, only their better halves.
Mats Sundin sticks to deadlines like I remember my anniversary. It's not about a day...its about a lifetime together. (You buying it?) "Was it really the 1st of August, honey? I think this should be a month-long celebration." Actually I've never had trouble remembering my anniversary because May 19, 1984 was Gretzky's first Stanley Cup win. Hey, the relatives from Edmonton came...I HAD to sneak out of the reception hall to check the score of the game. Did it for them!
Congrats to Alexia Calvillo...her friends tell me she's done with radiation and when I saw her little girls picking up Daddy on arrival from Vancouver last week, I know AC is blessed three times over with the wonderful beauties in his life.
Hey ThunderMonkey: now that Bryan Chiu has a bobblehead out, (Philion says he looks so thin he should be a D-lineman!) I think you're next. There's gotta be a way to make a furry bobblehead.
This weekend's coolest activities:--making a donation to Jacques Villeneuve's UNICEF campaign at NASCAR. (I think the Schick Quatro girls--probably very hot--will be there, but I never trust a woman with a sharp object near my neck).
-- grooving to Jack Johnson at Osheaga. I'd swim to Hawaii to see him play.

Comment online since August 1st 2008I know my father will be thrilled to see his name in an article with Scotty Bowman and Matt Sundin. Both of which are my three sons idols. I was not able to be with my Dad for his 82 birthday today so I sent him this article. Thanks for including my hero in your well written report. Happy Birthday from PEI Dad
Also I was wondering if it is possible to get a transcript or tape of last nights interview on CJAD as we did not hear it hear on the island.
