CHATHAM, Ont. - Hydro company crews from southwestern Ontario are headed to Louisiana to help restore power that was cut by Hurricane Gustav.
Almost 20 workers Chatham-Kent Hydro, Essex Power, Bluewater Power, Elk Energy and Middlesex Power are being deployed to the region. The hurricane cut electricity for about 1.4 million customers across Louisiana and it could take to two to three weeks to restore the power.
An official with Chatham-Kent Hydro says the Ontario crew is expected to work 12-16 hour days until the lights are back on.
Bluewater Power lineman Randy Hull says "it's going to be a messy" job with a lot of heat, humidity and rain.
He says it's an "honour and a privilege" to help out and people are so happy when they see his company's red trucks pull in.
