ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - A last-minute decision saved Pakistan's top leaders from becoming victims of the massive truck bomb attack in Islamabad on the weekend.
A senior government official says both Pakistan's president and its prime minister were originally scheduled to dine at the luxury Marriott Hotel on Saturday.
But the venue was changed at the last minute and they were not at the hotel when the truck bomb exploded, killing at least 53 people and wounding more than 270.
Interior Ministry chief Rehman Malik did not specify why the two leaders decided to move the dinner from the Marriott to the premier's house, but that the decision was kept secret.
Malik said the bombers may or may not have known about their plans to dine at the Marriott.
But in any case, he says the decision to change the venue "saved the entire leadership."
