PEACE RIVER, Alta. - A former teacher in northwestern Alberta who sexually assaulted two male students in separate cases that stretch back decades has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison.
Merle Raymond Miller, 81, of Mannville, Alta., pleaded guilty last year to two counts each of gross indecency, indecent assault and failing to appear in court.
RCMP say the charges stem from incidents that began in 1966 and ended in 1983 in the Fairview region.
Police received a complaint about Miller in 1992 but there was not enough evidence to charge him.
The Crown proceeded with charges in 2006 when another complaint was laid.
Both victims, who were minors when the assaults occurred, told police they met Miller while he was a teacher in the Fairview area.
