ROME - A convicted mobster considered one of Italy's most wanted criminals has been extradited to Italy from Canada.
Italian Justice Ministry officials say Giuseppe Coluccio arrived in Rome on Wednesday and was taken to a top-security prison.
Ministry officials gave no further details, citing security concerns.
Coluccio, one of Italy's 30 most wanted men, fled the country in 2005 and was convicted in absentia on drugs, weapons and conspiracy charges.
He was arrested Aug. 7 outside a luxury lakeside apartment building in Toronto where he had been living.
Italian authorities believe he ran international drug-trafficking rings for the 'ndrangheta, a powerful organized crime syndicate based in the southern region of Calabria.
The ANSA news agency said the authorities believe that he maintained contacts with his Calabria-based associates from Canada.
