KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - A Canadian soldier has been injured and an Afghan interpreter killed in a suicide bombing attack near Kandahar City.
An Afghan child was also seriously injured when the bomber struck Tuesday morning at a busy market in the Panjwaii District west of Kandahar City.
Canadian military officials say the bomber blew himself up near a group of Afghan National Police and members of the Canadian Forces who were on foot patrol near the market.
The wounded soldier and child, reported to be a 12-year-old boy, were evacuated by helicopter to the medical facility at the Kandahar Airfield where the child was listed in serious but stable condition and the soldier was said to be in good condition.
The police chief of Panjwaii says the attacker died in the bombing.
