COLDSTREAM, B.C. - Residents of Coldstream are suggesting the area's homeless people move into local shelters after a fire scorched a hillside above a campsite.
Investigators say the brush fire just north of Kal Beach may have been deliberately set. Thursday's blaze scorched just under a hectare of hillside behind a store and campground.
Acting fire chief Lawrie Skolrood says the blaze was human-caused and may have been deliberate.
There are a few homeless residents who stay in the area which is otherwise not generally used by the public.
Resident Jeff Hunkin has no doubt the fire was caused by a homeless person. He says up to 20 of them live in the area and have regular fires.
