OMEMEE, Ont. - A 57-year-old Toronto man is dead after a car drove off Highway 7 near Peterborough, Ont., and smashed into two vehicles in a private driveway.
The car landed just a couple of centimetres from a couple's living room in the community of Omemee. The unidentified driver was pronounced dead at the scene and a 65-year-old male passenger was taken to hospital with unspecified injuries.
Resident Karen Park says her car was destroyed and a truck owned by a contractor doing work in her backyard was damaged.
Park says the car flew through the air and believes the driver may have had a medical condition that caused him to slam on the gas.
Park also says the passenger had tried to pry the driver's foot from the gas pedal before the crash.
